How Suno works

Describe the genre, mood, and subject of a song, or paste lyrics you wrote and describe the style; you can also start from a recording of up to 8 minutes (30 minutes on Premier). Each generation costs 10 credits and gives you two versions. Keep the one you like and refine it: paid plans add stem separation, and Premier adds Suno Studio, an editor with MIDI, effects, and automation. Songs live in your Suno library, where listening and sharing are open to every plan; downloading a file counts against your plan's allowance. Since v5.5 (March 26, 2026), Pro and Premier subscribers can sing with their own verified voice (Voices) and tune up to three Custom Models on their own tracks.

Suno's models in 2026

Suno released v6 on September 9, 2026, as three models: v6, the flagship, and v6-wild for Pro and Premier subscribers, and v6-mini, the fastest version, for everyone. Suno built v6 with industry partners including Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe, and has retired every model before v6; songs made with older models stay in your library. v6 also has Max Mode, which spends more credits per generation and which Suno recommends for songs longer than two minutes.

Suno pricing and the free plan

US prices on suno.com, checked on October 9, 2026. Credits do not carry over. A generation costs 10 credits for two songs, so 50 credits a day cover five generations, Pro covers about 500 songs a month, and Premier about 2,000. Pro adds v6 and v6-wild, a priority queue, Voices, Custom Models, stem separation, and WAV downloads; Premier adds Suno Studio and audio uploads of up to 30 minutes, and work exported from Suno Studio is not subject to the download limits.

Who owns Suno songs, and can you use them commercially?

On the free plan, Suno owns the songs you make and you may use them for personal, non-commercial purposes; subscribing later does not license them. On Pro and Premier, Suno treats you as the owner of songs you make while subscribed, with commercial use rights you keep after you cancel, so you can release them through a distributor and use them in YouTube and TikTok videos. Copyright is a separate question: Suno's help center notes that US copyright protects work made by a human, so a song made entirely by AI may not qualify, while lyrics you wrote are yours.

How to download your songs from Suno

Find the song in your library, open its More Actions (…) menu, choose Download, and pick the format. Since September 3, 2026, Pro includes 20 song downloads a month and Premier 60, and the free plan has none each month (free accounts created before that date keep up to 7 trial downloads). One song is one download in any format; downloading it again, or its stems, does not use another. The limits apply to every song in your library, including songs made before that date.

FormatWho can download it
MP3Every plan, on the web and in the apps
WAVPro and Premier, on suno.com; the apps default to MP3
VideoA video file of the song; Suno says options vary by plan and device
StemsSongs that have stems; included in that song's download
MIDIPremier, for songs made in Suno Studio

Lawsuits, licensing deals, and controversy

In June 2024, Universal Music Group, Sony Music, and Warner Music Group sued Suno in US federal court in Massachusetts over training on their recordings. Warner settled and became a partner on November 25, 2025, with licensed models due in 2026 and downloads limited to paid plans. On July 31, 2026, the Munich Regional Court ruled in a case brought by GEMA that Suno infringed copyright; the judgment is not final and Suno said it was weighing an appeal. Suno signed deals with BMG and Believe in August and September 2026 and released v6 on September 9. On September 18, 2026, Universal and Sony filed a second US lawsuit covering 60,202 recordings; Suno says v6 was trained on licensed content, its community's creations and preference signals, and its team's own work. The cases still open have no final ruling yet.

How to turn a Suno song into a music video

Download the song from Suno as an MP3, a WAV, or a video file, then upload it to Solmi's AI music video generator, which takes MP3, WAV, and M4A files up to 200 MB, and video files such as an MP4, from which it uses the audio. Solmi detects the lyrics in 14 languages, writes a creative brief, storyboards the video shot by shot, and renders it in 16:9 or 9:16, usually in 3 to 10 minutes. A new web account gets a one-time 100 music-video credits, enough for one 20-second 480p preview with a watermark. Paid plans start at $35 a month and render the full song in 720p or 1080p without a watermark, with commercial use.

Can I put Suno songs on Spotify?
